Havana, was awarded “Book of the Year 2017” and “Best Art Book” by the British Book Design and Production Awards.
The judges comments: “Havana is a stunning large format book, beautifully presented in a cloth covered solander box, with good use of contrasting foil on the cover. The quality of printing on Somerset mould paper is exceptional, and the colourful double page images jump off the page. The book draws the reader in, compelling them to turn every page. Quite simply, Havana is a joy to hold, a delight to look at and a pleasure to handle; making this a truly worthy overall winner.”
Leslie has created 22 paintings which illustrate a very personal view of Havana. The text comprises of extracts from Cuba, a short book by Irene A Wright, an American journalist/editor. Published in 1910, her text provides interesting first-hand insights as to the ongoing rich tapestry of daily life; full of curious flavour, detail and manners of the period.
An edition of 70 copies, 47cm x 35 cm, 60 pages with full colour double page spreads printed on Somerset mould-made paper. Case-bound in cloth with gigantic letters hot stamped onto the front cover. The book sits in a cloth covered solander box.
